Maryland English Institute (MEI)

Through a range of courses and programs, the Maryland English Institute (MEI) supports students, academics, and professionals seeking to improve their oral and written English communication skills.

The Maryland English Institute (MEI) has been serving English language learners since 1981. It is part of the Department of Education at the University of Maryland (UM) and provides English language instruction at the university and college level for speakers of other languages who want to learn English for academic, professional, or personal purposes. MEI offers courses in the fall, spring, and summer, including electives focusing on pronunciation, business communication, conversation, academic preparation, professional writing, and TOEFL preparation. MEI is a member of the University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) and accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA).
