Founded in 1950, Oakland School is a small boarding and day school for bright children that benefit from an individualized program in reading, math, and written language. The low student to teacher ratio (5:1), multi-sensory instruction and individualized programs ensure students reach their potential.

Oakland School is located in Keswick, VA (near Charlottesville) about two hours from Washington, DC. Oakland accepts students ages 6 to 14 at admission and is ungraded through the eighth grade. The experienced and certified staff teach organization and study skills strategies so that students are successful at their next school and beyond. Learning is enhanced by technology such as laptops, Kindle tablets, Smart boards, etc. The tranquil 450 acre setting, structured environment, variety of intramural sports, and horseback riding program provide opportunities for character development, social growth, and community service.

  • Multi-sensory approach with classes in phonics, reading, math, writing, study skills, and content areas.
  • Structured, caring environment with professional, experienced, nurturing staff. All teachers certified by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • A wide variety of recreational activities including horseback riding, intramural sports, arts, community activities, outdoor adventures, and more.
  • Five week summer camp (included in year-round program) designed to give children an academic boost or support in reading, math, written language, and study skills and includes traditional camp fun such as horseback riding, swimming, archery, science & nature, arts & crafts, sports, and more.
  • Students must be proficient in English.
